warmly in the cocoon of her own thoughts on Flickr.
First, title was taken from this: “The mind can weave itself warmly in the cocoon of its own thoughts, and dwell a hermit anywhere.” ~ James Russell Lowell
Second, the idea came from these pictures i’ve seen a bunch of times over the past few years, of trees that had been cocooned in spider webs after flooding had driven all sorts of insects into them. If you haven’t see them yet you can head over here: [link]
I’d thought about using some of my fake spider webs, but logistically it would have been a nightmare, so i went with my beloved plastic instead.
The color version is awesome, but for some reason the black and white one speaks to me more. Plus it makes what’s going on inside the “cocoon” look way more bizarre and awesome.
Model is the wonderful Tatiana.

Feel like appreciating myself a little today, so: This image will always be one of my favorites and something i’m crazy proud of. First time working with non-natural light, and the first time what i pictured in my head was almost identical to what i actually made. Yay me (6 years ago!)

OK, if any artists out there would like to exchange small mail art with me, let me know! I’ll be sending out small mixed media pieces, mostly based around my photos, but i’ll probably do some with the public domain images i’ve worked with too. In return i’d like to receive drawings, paintings, screen prints, or mixed media pieces. I’m NOT really interested in prints, sorry. I’m sending out small original pieces, not straight reproductions, so i’d like to receive the same in return. Plus 99% of the art i have in the house are photos already. I also will be saying no to some people, sorry! I can’t do an exchange with everyone who asks, it’s just not possible. So if you could give me some idea of what you do and/or might send, i’d appreciate it. But if i might make posts here and there where people can send me their addresses and i’ll pick a few to send some random pieces out to.
EMAIL ME if interested. caryn @ caryndrexl.com
